Kartika Rane

Indian television and film actress
born March 17,1977

She studied sociology at Sophia College, Mumbai and since then entered into modelling and tele-advertising. She appeared in B. R. Chopra's comedy countdown show, Ek Se Badkar Ek. She was in the 1996 Hindi film Yash. Appeared in television roles in 2001 television shows Kangan and Hum Pardesi Ho Gaye.[1]

Rane is native from Goa. Her uncle is Pratapsingh Rane, the ex-Chief Minister of Goa.

Kartika appeared in number of commercials for leading advertising agencies in 1990s, like McCann Erickson, O&M, ICI, Lintas, HTA, Chaitra Leo Burnett. The products she has advertised include Forhans, Dulux, Fair & Lovely, Rin and Vim.

Most of the serials she did went on to become moderate-to-big hits. From ‘Captain Vyom’ to ‘Tere Mere Sapne’, from ‘Gubare’ to ‘Nyaay’ and from ‘Janam’ to ‘Hum Pardesi Ho Gaye’ and ‘Kangan’, Kartika Rane has acted with established directors.

The Rane family live a wealthy lifestyle in their native Goa along with three daughters, one of whom is none other than Kartika, who was born on March 17th. She was a student of Sociology in Bombay's Sophia College.

Her uncle, Pratpsingh Rao Rane, is the Chief Minister of Goa, while her cousin, Madhavrao Scindia, is a well known politician. The Rane family roots date centuries back, including their involvement in the revolution against the Portuguese, who were ruling Goa at the time.

It was not money that attracted her to act on the small screen. She is known for her appearance in 'Kangan', & 'Hum Pardesi Ho Gaye'. Others include 'Captain Vyom', 'Tere Mere Sapne', 'Gubare', 'Didi Ka Dulha', 'Nyay', 'Mom Ke Par', 'Khwaab', 'Ek Se Badkar Ek', & Janam'.

Earlier she had been the 'Fair & Lovely Girl' model, as well as has appeared in commercials of Rin, Vim, Forhans toothpaste, and Dulux.

She experienced considerable setbacks in her overtures to act in Bollywood, where she was set to play a lead role opposite Anil Kapoor in Mukesh Bhatt's 'Tumko Meri Kasam, but was replaced by Rani Mukherjee. She did act in 'Yash' and 'Rakht' but these were unable to launch her career.

She admits that she did not really seek acting or modeling assignments

they simply came her way. Fluent in Marathi, English, and Hindi,

things have come easily for her, and have made her one of the most sought-after actresses on the small screen, who wants viewers to forget her real identity and just remember her characters on the screen.
