PRINCESS GOBIND KAUR - SAD ENDING OF POVERTY AT END

PRINCESS GOBIND KAUR - SAD ENDING OF POVERTY AT END Bollywood movies are commonly known for their unrealistic love stories that could hardly happen in real life. But let me tell you a real life story that sounds no more realistic than any Hindi movie or a fairy tale. The story happened in the second half of the 19th century in Kapurthala that was a Princely State of Punjab at the time. Princess Gobind Kaur was a daughter of Maharajha of Kapurthala and since childhood had lived in great luxury and splendour of the court of her father. She was married at the age of 12 to a nobleman of great wealth and position. Thanks to her royal status she didn't have to move to her husband's house as tradition required but stayed at her own six-storeyed palace. Nevertheless the life there was pretty boring. As the marriage was arranged the couple was not interested in each others and Gobind's husband lived separately in his own house and visited his wife only occasionally. Bei...

MAHARAJA BHUPINDERSINGH OF PATIALA

MAHARAJA BHUPINDERSINGH OF PATIALA 12 October, 1891 marks the birthday of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, named as one of the most indulgent and kinky princes of India. After the death of his father Rajinder Singh, Bhupinder was crowned the Maharaja at the tender age of nine. Maharaja Bhupinder Singh has left a deep impression on the sands of time and was not only symbolised as the epitome of luxury but was also popular for his, ahem, kinky ways of life. And when we say kinky, we mean really kinky. Source: Wikipedia Maharaja Bhupinder Singh ruled the princely state of Patiala from 1900 to 1938. Among his many accomplishments, from being an Indian representative at the Imperial War Council in World War I to donating a considerable amount for the Ranji Trophy and representing Sikhs during the Round Table Conference — was his major affinity for opulence. He was the first man in India to own an aircraft, which he bought from the United Kingdom. In 1926, he sent a trunk full...

THE STORY OF KOHI-NOOR ,  HOW IT WAS BOUGHT OR CEASED Lahore’s exiled prince A young Maharajah Daleep Singh The fascinating tale of Maharaja Daleep Singh who relinquished the Koh-i-Noor to become the most prominent fixture in Queen Victoria’s court. But his Indian past came back to haunt him, writes Ammar Ali Qureshi Maharaja Ranjit Singh is arguably the most remarkable figure in Punjab’s history. His son and last ruler of the Sikh Empire, Daleep Singh, is perhaps the most tragic. Ranjit succeeded his father as head of a small confederacy at the age of ten and, owing to his military genius, became the ruler of Punjab when he was twenty-one. He turned the tide of history by taking the battle to the land of the invaders on the western front, and conquered them; His empire, which lasted for fifty years from 1799 to 1849, stretched from the southern districts of Punjab to Afghanistan in the west Kashmir (which also included Ladakh and Gilgit and Baltistan) in...
