பிறந்தது கேரள மாநிலம் கோட்டயம். இவரது தந்தை சென்னையில் வியாபாரம் செய்து வந்ததனால் குடும்பத்தையும் சென்னைக்கு மாற்றினார். கோடம்பாக்கத்தில் வீடு கட்டி அங்கு குடியேறியது இவரது குடும்பம். இவர் ஆரம்பத்தில் குரு கோவிந்தன் என்பவரிடம் 4 வருடங்கள் நடனம் பயின்றார். பின்னர் ராகவன் என்ற மாஸ்டரிடம் நாட்டியம் பயின்றார். 4 வருடங்கள் அவரது நடனக்குழுவில் நடனம் ஆடினார். பின்னர் அவரிடமிருந்து பிரிந்து வந்து தாமே சொந்தமாக ஒரு நடனக்குழுவை உருவாக்கி நடனங்கள் செய்து வந்தார். அக்காலகட்டத்தில் பிரபல மெரிலாண்ட் சுப்பிரமணியத்தின் ஸ்டூடியோவிலிருந்து இவரது நடனத்தைக் காண தயாரிப்பு நிருவாகி ஒருவர் வருவதுண்டு. அவ்வாறு வந்திருந்தபோது அந்நிறுவனம் அப்போது தயாரிக்கவிருந்த “ பாடாத்த பைங்கிளி “ என்ற படத்திற்கு ஒரு புது முகத்தைத் தேடிய போது இவரை அணுகி இவரது விருப்பத்தைக் கேட்க இவரும் ஒத்துக் கொள்ள அப்படத்தில் 1957-ஆம் ஆண்டு முதன் முதலாக நடித்தார். அப்போது அவரது வயது 17. அதிலிருந்து மெரிலாண்ட் ஸ்டூடியோவின் நிரந்தர நடிகையானார். 1957-ஆம் ஆண்டில் மின்னுனதெல்லாம் பொன்னல்ல, ஜெயில் புள்ளி, Hotel High Range போன்ற படங்களில் நடித்தார்.

தமிழில் சிவாஜிகணேசனுடன் மருத நாட்டு வீரன் உள்ளிட்ட 3 படங்களில் இரண்டாம் கதாநாயகியாகவும், எல்லாம் உனக்காக, உலகம் சிரிக்கிறது போன்ற சில படங்களிலும் தெலுங்கு மொழியில் 10-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட படங்களிலும், கன்னடம் மற்றும் இந்தி மொழியில் 4 படங்களிலும் ஏறத்தாழ 50 படங்களுக்கு மேல் இவர் நடித்துள்ளார். இவரது காலத்தில் மலையாள சினிமாவில் கதாநாயகனுக்கு 5000 ரூபாயும் கதாநாயகிக்கு 4000 ரூபாயுமாகும் சம்பளம்.

கலையும் காமினியும், காட்டு மைனா போன்ற மலையாளப் படங்களில் இவருக்கு விருப்பமான கதாபாத்திரங்கள் அமைந்தன. திருவனந்தபுரத்தைச் சார்ந்த சசிகுமார் என்பவரைத் திருமணம் செய்த பின்னர் சினிமாவிலிருந்து விலகினார். இத்தம்பதியினருக்கு ஒரே மகன்.

She is born at Kottayam, Kerala, later moved on to Chennai. She is married to Sasikumar and they have one son. She was one of the permanent actress of Merryland Studio‘s movies. She has acted more than 50 Malayalam movies and few movies in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi .

Shanthi came to Chennai (then Madras) at a very young age. Apart from acting in films, she was also known for her performances as a dancer. In fact, her dancing career peaked when she was selected as the main dancer of the Uday Shankar Center for Dance.

KV Shanthi then went on to perform in several countries across the world. She acted in more than 50 films in Malayalam and a handful of films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi as well.

KV Shanthi is survived by her son Shyam Kumar. He performed her last rites and her funeral took place on the evening of September 21.

Shanthi made her debut as an actress in the film Padatha Painkili, which released in 1953. She was one of the popular choices for the directors in the 60s and 70s. She also performed a dance number in Ponkathir (1953).

KV Shanthi was a frequent collaborator with Merryland Studio. The production house had produced her debut film.

She was last seen in Bharyayillatha Rathri, which hit the screens in 1975.

Famous dancer-turned-actress, K V Shanthi, is well-known for her stage name, Shanthi. She was born in Kottayam, Kerala. Her father is a businessperson and is settled in Chennai. Her entire childhood was spent in both the cities as they kept on moving. This reason might be the main cause as to why she didn't have a good slang in Malayalam, and she had to take the help of dubbing artists for her voice in Malayalam movies.

K V Shanthi didn't enter the film industry directly. Firstly, she was a famous dancer. She used to be a part of a troop for a few years and soon, she formed own troop. She continued with her troop performances all over the the country for about 3-4 years. She is a dedicated disciple of world famous dancer, Uday Shankar.

K V Shanthi, while performing with her troop, got a chance to act in movies. She appeared in movies like ‘Ponkathir’, ‘Jailppuli’, and ‘Achanum Makanum’. When the production manager of Merryland Studio came to Shanthi and asked her to play a role, she immediately accepted, though for the role was for a second heroine. She appeared as Lusie in her first Malayalam movie, 'Padatha Painkili'. It is a social drama film directed by P Subramaniam in 1957. This film was a big commercial hit then. At first, she was afraid to face the camera, but later, she met it more comfortably.

K V Shanthi appeared in the role of Sathyabhama in the movie, ‘Bhakta Kuchela’. Bhaktha Kuchela was a remarkable movie in the history of both the Malayalam and Telugu film industry. A few Telugu actors took the major roles, and a few Tamil actors took the other roles. With this movie, she reached the audience of Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam cinema. This movie is one of those movies for which Shanthi is never forgotten for.

Coming to Shanthi's personal life, she married ‘Sasikumar’, and they have a child, Shyam Kumar. She appeared in and around fifty films, and later she retired. She lives as a housemaker in Chennai now.
