மிதுன் சக்ரவர்த்தி (16- ஜூன் 1947) அன்று கௌரங்க சக்ரவர்த்தி யாக பிறந்தார். இவர் தேசிய திரைப்பட விருது வென்ற இந்திய திரைப்பட நடிகர், சமூக சேவகர் மற்றும் தொழில் முனைவர் ஆவார். சக்கரவர்த்தி தன்னுடைய நடிப்பில் அறிமுக நடிகராக (1976)மிரிகயா நாடக கலைக் குழுவோடு ஆரம்பித்தார், இதற்காக இவர் சிறந்த நடிகருக்கான சிறந்த தேசிய விருதை முதலில் வென்றார். 1980-களில் இவர் உச்ச நிலையில் இருந்த தருணங்களில் சிறப்பான நடன நாயகனாக விளங்கி மிகுதியான ரசிகர்களை கவர்ந்தார் இதன் மூலம் இந்தியாவின் மிகச் சிறந்த நடிகர்களில் ஒருவராக தன்னை நிலை நிறுத்திக் கொண்டார், குறிப்பாக 1982- ஆம் ஆண்டில் ஜிம்மி என்ற தெரு ஆட்டக்காரராக தன்னுடைய பாத்திர நடிப்பின் மூலம் பெறும் வெற்றியை தந்த டிஸ்கோ டான்சர் படத்தின் முலம் அடையாளம் கொள்ளப்பட்டார்.

சொந்த வாழ்க்கை
இவர் கொல்கத்தாவில் பிறந்தார். கொல்கத்தாவில் உள்ள பெயர் பெற்ற ஸ்காட்டிஷ் சர்ச் காலேஜ்ஜில் பயின்றார், இங்கிருந்து இவர் தன்னுடைய வேதியலில் பட்டபடிப்பை(பிஎஸ்சி) முடித்தார். அதற்கு பிறகு புனேவில் உள்ள இந்திய திரைப்படம் மற்றும் தொலைக்காட்சி நிறுவனத்தில் சேர்ந்து பட்டப்படிப்பை முடித்தார்.
திரைப்பட தொழிலுக்குள் நுழைவதற்கு முன் மிதுன் நக்ஸ்லைட்களின உறுதிமிக்க ஆதரவாளராக இருந்தது ஒரு சிறிய அறியப்பட்ட உண்மையாகும். ஆனால் இவருடைய ஒரே சகோதரர் விபத்தில் சிக்கி மரணம் அடைந்தார். இது மிகவும் துயர நிகழ்வாக இவருடைய குடும்பத்தை பாதித்தது.இதன் பிறகு தன்னுடைய சொந்த வாழ்க்கைக்கு நக்ஸ்லைட்களிடமிருந்து துயர்ந்த ஆபத்தை சந்திக்க வேண்டியிருந்ததும், மிதுன் நக்ஸ்லைட்டை விட்டு விலகி,தன்னுடைய குடும்பத்திற்கு திரும்பிவிட்டார், இது ஒரு வழிப்பாதையாக கருதுவதற்கு காரணமானது. அவருடைய வாழ்க்கையில் இது ஒரு திருப்புமுனையானது. மற்றும் இவருடைய நிலையான அடையாளத்திற்கு வழிவகுக்க முக்கிய காரணங்களில் ஒன்றாக ஆனது. மற்றொரு குறைவாக அறியப்படும் உண்மை என்னவென்றால் இவர் வீர விளையாட்டுகளில் மிகவும் நல்ல பயிற்சிக்குள்ளானவர்.

Mithun Chakraborty dated the actress Sarika with whom he had worked in various films, but they eventually broke up. Then, he had a relationship with model-actress Helena Luke whom he married in 1979 but they eventually parted ways after four months (it sure was a rebound for Helena as after her five-year-old relationship with Javed Khan had just ended). Mithun then went on to marry the actress, Yogeeta Bali (after her split from legendary singer and husband Kishore Kumar). Now, let’s take a detailed look at the latter two pairings (Mithun-Helena and Mithun-Yogeeta) and the tragedy underneath.
Besides the monetary problems (they were living in modest PGs as Mithun was not a star by then), the real reason was Mithun’s insecurity and suspicious attitude towards Helena. He suspected her of seeing her ex, Javed Khan. Helena revealed to the Stardust: “Even if we bumped into him accidentally, Mithun insisted I had planned the meeting.”
Recalling her first birthday after marriage, she revealed that Mithun was out of town that day, and didn’t give her a single penny to spend. He didn’t even bother to call her up and wish her. Eventually, her friends took her out for dinner and all of them later dropped in at Javed’s place. Helena added:“What hurts me most is when he lied to the press and said that he had not only called me and not found me at home, but that he had sent me flowers and a bottle of perfume.”
Helena was a stage actor, and she eventually entered the glamorous world of acting in the films. Mithun had once asked her never to use his name for anything. When Stardust asked Helena if she thinks of her ex-husband, she replied:
“I make it a point to see all his films,” she confessed. “He was terrible in Khwab. But I believe he is very good in Sitara. The only thing I want now is to work with him in a film. I want to show him that I’m an actress too!”
Though Helena had not met Yogeeta then, she had this to say about her and Mithun’s affair:
“I really don’t care what he does with whom. Whether it is Yogeeta, Ranjeeta or Padmini Kolhapure, it doesn’t bother me. The poor girl doesn’t know what she is getting into. I only hope she doesn’t get disillusioned a second time. That is, if Mithun really married her. I don’t think he ever will. I was told by Tamanna’s mother that my ex-husband was wooing her daughter as well.”

He won the National Award (for best actor). He travelled to many festivals with Mrinalda, including Russia.
He started doing street theatre in Calcutta when he was very young. Then he got involved in politics .
IMithun was a typical north Calcutta boy who loved football. He wanted to become a great footballer and join Mohun Bagan. He was quite a good player. A renowned khep player (on hire per match), He used to be paid Rs 5 for quarter-final matches, Rs 10 for semi-finals and Rs 25 for finals. It used to take care of his pocket money. He also wanted to become a political leader... but after working as a junior artiste, he felt like taking up acting as a profession. Baba wanted me to become an engineer. He had even picked up the admission form for an engineering college. But it didn't happen. He also learnt wrestling at one point.
In 2011, Penguin publishing was apparently, going to assign assign somebody to write a book on Mithun. The title has been decided - The Black Moon.

Twenty-two-year old rookie film producer Pradeep Desai is embarking on a project which would daunt even old hands at the game. He is producing a film based on the lives of Billa and Ranga. Mithun Chakraborthy use to frequent a famous tailor shop in Mumbai called "Playboy". Once in 1976, Mithun had arrived at the shop and saw Salim Khan. Salim noticed Mithun standing around and kept observing him. Salim was taken back by Mithun's face. Salim finally approached Mithun and said "Bhai tumhare chehre mein koi kashish hain. Aap filmo mein kyon nahin try karte?". Mithun knew exactly who Salim Khan was and could not believe his ears when Salim Khan paid him that compliment. Mithun told Salim Khan he just graduated from Pune's FTII acting school and was looking for work. Salim Khan gave him Yash Chopra'a address and told him they were casting for Trishul. The needed a boy for the role opposite Poonam Dhillon. Mithun thanked Salim Khan for the help and set out to meet Yash Chopra. Unfortunately Chopra had already signed Sachin for the role.
