நினைவிருக்கிறதா..? 1984-டிசம்பர் 3-ம் தேதி...!!! போபால் ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷனில் 'துருவே' என்ற ஸ்டேஷன் மாஸ்டருக்கு இரவு நேரப் பணி. போபால் ஸ்டேஷன் வழியாக லக்னோ வில் இருந்து மும்பை செல்லும் ரயிலுக்கு சிக்னல் கிளியரன்ஸ் கொடுத்துவிட்டு வெளியே வந்தார். அவரால் காற்றில் ஏதோ வித்தியாசத்தை உணர முடிந்தது. அவசர அவசரமாக சிக்னல் அறைக்கு ஓடினார். எப்படியாவது லக்னோ டு மும்பை ரயிலைத் தடுத்து விடுவதுதான் அவரது நோக்கம். ஆனால், அந்த ரயில் ஏற்கெனவே கிளம்பிவிட்டது. துருவேயால் ஒன்றும் செய்ய முடியவில்லை. லக்னோ-மும்பை ரயில் வந்தது. அதில் இருந்து இறங்கிய பயணிகள் எல்லாம் விஷ வாயுவைத் தாங்க முடியாமல் சுருண்டு விழுந்தார்கள். ஓடியவர்கள் இன்னும் சீக்கிரம் இறந்தார்கள். கொஞ்ச நேரத்தில் போபால் ரயில் நிலையத்தில் 191 பிணங்கள் கிடந்தன. அந்தக் காட்சி துருவேயை நிலை குலைய வைத்தது. பதற்றத்தோடு சிக்னல் அறைக்கு ஓடினார். அங்கு அவருக்குக் கீழ் பணிபுரியும் சிக்னல் மேன் வாயில் ரத்தம் வழிய செத்துக் கிடந்தார். அவரை ஓரமாக நகர்த்திப்போட்டுவிட்டு, எந்த ரயிலும்...
