After India’s independence, Lal Bahadur Shastri served in the government of the Uttar Pradesh.

Around 1947, he became Secretary to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

He was later appointed Minister of Police and Transport in the Uttar Pradesh government

One day, cooler was brought to his house from the people of development committee. His kids got excited and relaxed, in the hope summer is going to be awesome!

When Shastriji returned from work he saw the cooler. Immediately he called development committee, & told them to take the cooler right away. Seeing childrens' dull faces his wife suggested not deny this facility.

Shastriji told, “It is not necessary that I will stay at this post forever. Today, if we accept this facility our kids will get spoiled. Tomorrow, a day will come when I’ve to marry my daughters, what if they did not get this facility; they will have to suffer then. Nobody knows what will be the conditions ahead.”

Kids unaware of the logic then, praised their father when they became adults.
