VEERAPURAN APPU ,FREEDOM FIGHTER OF CEYLON   BORN 1812 NOVEMBER 7-1848 AUGUST 8 வீர புரன் அப்பு (Vira Puran Appu, சிங்களம்: පුරන් අප්පු) என அழைக்கப்படும் வீரகென்னாதிகே பிரான்சிசுக்கோ பெர்னாண்டோ (Weerahennadige Francisco Fernando, 7 நவம்பர் 1812 - 8 ஆகத்து 1848) இலங்கை வரலாற்றில் விடுதலைக்காகப் போராடிய குறிப்பிடத்தக்க ஒரு நபர். இவர் இலங்கையின் மேற்கே மொறட்டுவை நகரில் உயன பிரதேசத்தில் பிறந்தவர். தனது 13ம் வயதில் தான் பிறந்த இடத்தை விட்டு தனது வழக்கறிஞரான மாமனாருடன் இரத்தினபுரி சென்று அங்கு வாழ்ந்து வரலானார். தனது நாடு, மதம், இனம் என்பவற்றிற்கு தன்னை அர்ப்பணிக்க கருதிய அவர் தன் பெயரை புரன் அப்பு என மாற்றிக்கொண்டார். பிரித்தானிய ஏகாதிபத்திய வாதிகளிற்க்கு எதிராக 1848 விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்துக்குத் தலைமை தாங்கினார். கடப்பொல தேரரின் வழிகாட்டலில் மாத்தளை மெக்டோவல் கோட்டையைக் கைப்பற்றினார். எனினும் இப்போராட்டம் தோல்வியில் முடிந்தது. அவர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு 1848 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆகத்து 8 ஆம் நாள் துப்பாக்கியால் சுடப்பட்டு மரணதண்டனைக்குட்படுத்தப்பட்டார்.
