WILLIAM BENTINCK, THE GREAT GOVERNOR GENERAL  OF INDIA 1828-35 BORN  1774 SEPTEMBER 14-1839 JUNE 17 Lord William Bentinck , governor-general of India, was the second son of the third duke of Portland and his wife, Lady Dorothy Cavendish (1750–1794), only daughter of William Cavendish, fourth duke of Devonshire. Bentinck was born on the 14th of September 1774 at Burlington House in London. He entered the army in 1791 as an ensign in the Coldstream guards, and having been promoted in 1792 to a captaincy in the 2nd light dragoons, on 20 March 1794 was gazetted lieutenant-colonel of the 24th light dragoons. In the same year he served on the staff of the Duke of York in the Netherlands. He was M.P. for Camelford (March-May 1796), for Nottinghamshire (1796-1803, 1812-14, and 1816-26) and for Lynn (1826-7). In May 1799 he was attached to the headquarters of Marshal Suwarrof's army in the north of Italy, and remained in that country throughout the campaign of 1...

RANI OF JHANSI  ஜான்சி ராணி.. ஒரு வீரப்பெண்ணின் கதை    நவம்பர் 19, 1835 -  1858 ஜூன் 17 நவம்பர் 19, 1835இல் வாரணாசியில் பிராமணக் குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்த மௌரியபந்தர்-பகீரதிபாய் தம்பதியினருக்குப் பிறந்தவர் சான்சி இராணி.[1] இவருக்குப் பெற்றோர் இட்ட பெயர் மணிகர்ணிகா.[2] இவர் மனு எனவும் அழைக்கப்பட்டார்.[3] இவருக்கு நான்கு வயதாகும்போது பகீரதிபாய் இறந்து போனார்.[4] இவர் சிறு வயதிலேயே குதிரையேற்றமும் வாள் வீச்சும் கற்றுக் கொண்டார்.[5] மணிகர்ணிகாவின் தந்தையாகிய மௌரியபந்தர் பித்தூரிலுள்ள பேஷ்வா நீதிமன்றத்தில் வேலை செய்தார்.[6] பித்தூரின் பேஷ்வா மணிகர்ணிகாவைத் தனது சொந்த மகள் போல வளர்த்தார். சான்சியை ஆண்ட ராஜா கங்காதர ராவ் நெவல்கர் என்பவருக்கு 1842இல் மணிகர்ணிகாவைத் திருமணம் செய்து வைத்தார் தந்தை. அதிலிருந்து, மணிகர்ணிகா இராணி இலட்சுமிபாய் என அழைக்கப்பட்டதுடன் சான்சியின் ராணியாகவும் பதவியேற்றார்.[7] 1851இல் அவர்களுக்குப் பிறந்த மகனான தாமோதர் ராவ் நான்கு மாதங்களில் இறந்து போனான்.[8]  தாமோதர் ராவின் இறப்பின் பின், ராஜா கங்காதர ராவ் நெவல்கரும் இராணி இலட்சுமிபாயு...
