மாயா படத்தின் வெற்றிக்குப் பிறகு தன் கதாபாத்திரத்துக்கு முக்கியத்துவம் தருகிற படங்களில் நடிக்க ஆரம்பித்துள்ளார் நயன்தாரா. மீஞ்சுர் கோபி இயக்கும் கதாநாயகியை மையக்கதாபாத்திரமாகக் கொண்டுள்ள இப்படத்தின் விளம்பரங்கள் தான் நயன்தாராவின் பிறந்தநாளையொட்டி வெளியிடப்படவுள்ளன.

2010களில் ரம்லத் என்ற முஸ்லிம் மனைவி படுத்திய பாடு: பிரபுதேவா ரம்லத் என்ற முஸ்லீம் பெண்ணை திருமணம் செய்து கொண்ட போது, அவர் தான் இந்துவாக மதம்மாறி, லதா என்ற பெயரை வைத்துக் கொண்டாராம். அண்ணாநகரில் உள்ள வீட்டில் ரம்லத்துடன் பிரபுதேவா தங்குகினார். பிரபுதேவா நயன்தாராவுடன் சுத்த ஆரம்பிக்கும் போதே, இருவரையும் பிரிக்க பிரபுதேவா மனைவி ரம்லத் மேற்கொண்ட முயற்சிகள் தோல்வி அடைந்து விட்டன. நயன்தாராவை அடிப்பேன் என்று கூட மிரட்டினார். கணவரை விட்டு விலகும்படி செல்போனில் எஸ்.எம்.எஸ்.களும் தொடர்ந்து அனுப்பினார்.பிரபுதேவாவிடமும் காதலை முறிக்கும்படி வற்புறுத்தினார். ஆனால், முடியவில்லை. சினிமா குடும்பத்தில் இவர்களது செக்யூலரிஸமே அலாதியானது[1].
சிம்புவுடனான காதல் முறிவுக்குப் பின்னர் தனிமையில் வாடிய நயன்தாராவுக்கு, வில்லுபடம் மூலம் பிரபுதேவாவின் அன்பு கிடைத்தது என்று ஊடகங்கள் வர்ணிக்கின்றன! பின்னர் அந்த அன்பு காதலாக மாறியது. பிரபுதேவாவை தீவிரமாக காதலித்தார் நயன்தாரா. ஓரிரு ஆண்டுகளாக அவரை தீவிரமாக காதலித்த நயன்தாரா, அவர் மீது தான் கொண்ட காதலை நிரூபிக்க கிறிஸ்தவ மதத்தில் இருந்தே இந்துவுக்கு மதம் மாறினார். அதாவது டயானா மரியம் குரியன் என்கின்ற நயன்தாரா மதம் மாறி இந்துவானார்[2]. இதனால் பிரபுதேவா மீது நயன்தாரா கொண்ட காதல் ரொம்ப உறுதியானது என்பதை உணர்த்தியது என்று விளக்கம் கொடுத்தன.
பிரபுதேவாவும், நயன்தாராவும் திருமணத்துக்கு தயாராகிறார்கள் என்று தூபம் போட்டன. இருவரையும் பிரிக்க பிரபுதேவா மனைவி ரம்லத் மேற்கொண்ட முயற்சிகள் தோல்வி அடைந்து விட்டன. பிரபுதேவாவிடமும் காதலை முறிக்கும்படி வற்புறுத்தினார். எதுவும் பலிக்கவில்லை. மாறாக நெருக்கத்தை இருவரும் தீவிரமாக்கினர் என்று ரொமான்ஸ் கதைகளை அவிழ்த்து விட்டன.
2011களில் விவாகரத்திற்கு உடன்பாடு – மனைவி மாற்றத்திற்கு ரூ 30 கோடி![3]:
நயன்தாராவுடனான பிரபுதேவாவின் கள்ளத் தொடர்பை எதிர்த்து நீதிமன்றத்துக்குப் போனார் ரம்லத். நயன்தாரா மீதும் இரு வழக்குகளைத் தொடர்ந்தார்[4]. ஆனால், இப்போது அந்த வழக்குகளை வாபஸ் பெற்றுவிட்ட ரம்லத்[5], ரூ 30 கோடிக்கும் அதிகமான சொத்துக்களுடன் பரஸ்பர விவாகரத்துக்கு சம்மதித்துள்ளார்[6]. இதனால் வரும் ஜூன்மாதம் 2011 பிரபுதேவாவுக்கும் ரம்லத்துக்கும் விவாகரத்து கிடைப்பது உறுதியாகி விட்டது. இந்த தகவல் நயன்தாராவுக்கு அளவில்லாத மகிழ்ச்சியைக் கொடுத்துள்ளது இப்போது அனைத்து மொழிகளிலும் தான் ஒப்புக்கொண்டிருந்த படங்களை முடித்துவிட்டார். புதியபடங்கள் எதிலும் ஒப்பந்தமாகவும் இல்லை. சமீபத்தில் கன்னடத்தில் சிவராஜ் குமாருக்கு ஜோடியாக நடிக்க வந்த வாய்ப்பையும் மறுத்து விட்டார். இருவருக்கும் வரும் ஜூலையில் திருமணம் நடக்கும் எனத் தெரிகிறது.
இன்னும் 6 மாதங்கள் இருப்பதால், திருமணத்துக்கான ஏற்பாடுகளில் மும்முரமாகியுள்ளனர், கள்ளக் காதலிலிருந்து சட்டப்படி நல்ல காதல்ஜோடியாக ப்ரமோஷன் பெற்றுள்ள பிரபுதேவாவும் நயனும்[7] அதற்கு தயாராகி விட்டனர் என்று ஊடகங்கள் அளந்தன.
2012-13களில் ரோமான்ஸில் மூழ்கிய பிரபுதேவா-நயன்தாரா – பச்சைக் குத்திக் கொண்ட நயன்தாரா:
நயன்தாராவுக்காக பிரபுதேவா, தனது காதல் மனைவி ரமலத்தை விவாகரத்து செய்து, நயனை திருமணம் செய்து கொள்ள தீர்மானித்தார். நயன்தாராவோ பிரபுதேவாவுக்காக இந்துமதத்துக்கு மாறினார். மேலும் அவரது பெயரான பிரபுதேவா என்பதை பிரபு என்று சுருக்கி தனது இடது கையில் பச்சை எல்லாம் குத்திக் கொண்டார்[8]. எல்லோரும் பார்க்கும் வகையில் தமிழில் அந்தப் பெயரை பச்சை குத்தியிருந்தார்[9].
ஆனபோதும், திருமணம் செய்து கொண்டு அவர்கள் மும்பையில் செட்டிலாகப் போகிறார்கள் என்று செய்திகள் வந்து கொண்டிருந்த நிலையில், திடீரென்று பிரபுதேவா-நயன்தாராவுக்கு இடையிலான காதல் முறிந்து பிரிந்து விட்டார்கள். காரணம் பிரபு தேவா வயது ஆகி விட்டதால் அதுக்கு லாயக்கு இல்லாமல் போய்
விட்டதால் வேறொருவரை பிரபுதேவா மேனேஜர் ஏற்பாடு செய்து கொடுத்து விட்டதாய் செய்தியும் வந்தது
சீக்கிரத்தில் மாலையும்-கையுமாக காட்சியளிப்பாளர்கள் என்று அனைவரும் நினைத்திருந்த நிலையில், தங்களது காதலை முறித்து கொண்டனர் இருவரும் பிரிந்து விட்டனராம். நயன்தாரா மீண்டும் சினிமாவில் நடிக்க தொடங்கிவிட்டார் என்று அளந்து கொட்டின. ஆனால், காதல் ஏன் முறிந்தது என்று சொல்லவில்லை!
காதலில் முறிந்த நயன்தாரா சீதை வேடத்தில் நடித்தது:
நயனதாரா என்ன செய்யப் போகிறார், என்றெல்லாம் ஊதப் பார்த்த ஊடகங்கள் மௌனமாகின. காதல் போனாலும், நடிப்பை விடவில்லை. போதாகுறைக்கு சீதை வேடம் கிடைத்தது. சிலர் அவர் சீதையாக நடிப்பதற்குக் கூட எதிர்ப்புத் தெரிவித்தனர். அதனால் ஸ்ரீராமராஜ்ஜியம் தெலுங்கு படத்தில் சீதை வேடத்தில் நடித்ததோடு நடிப்புக்கு குட்பை சொல்லிவிட்டு வெளியேறிய நயன்தாரா, ஆரம்பம் படத்தில் இருந்து மறுபிரவேசத்தை தொடங்கினார்.ஆக, தற்போது மீண்டும் சினிமாவில் பிசியாகவிட்டார்[10]. இந்நிலையில் நயன்தாரா நடிப்பில் சமீபத்தில் வெளியான சில படங்களில் அந்த பச்சை பளிச்சென தெரிந்தது. படங்களிலும், பொது இடங்களிலும் அந்த ‘பச்சை’யை பச்சையாகப் பார்க்க முடிந்தது[11]. இது தெரிந்த விசயமாக இருந்தாலும், ஊடகங்கள் அவ்வப்போது, பெரிய விசயமாக ஊதி வந்தது[12] வேடிக்கைதான்!
குத்திய பச்சை வெளியே தெரிந்ததாம்: சென்ற ஜூன் 2012ல் “மா” திரைப்பட விழா நிகழ்ச்சியில் எவ்வளவு முயற்சி செய்து மறைத்தாலும் அது தெரிந்து விட்டதாம். உடனே அவர் துபாய்க்குச் சென்று அதனை எடுத்துவிடப் போகிறார் என்று செய்திகள் வந்தன. இன்னும் சில செய்திகள் பாங்காக்கிற்குச் சென்று அதனை நீக்கப் போகிறார் என்று அளந்தன[13]. இப்பொழுது ஆனால், அவற்றை மறுத்தார்[14]. இருப்பினும் மறுபடியும் சில ஊடகங்கள் ஊத ஆரம்பித்துள்ளன[15]. இது நயன்தாராவுக்கு உறுத்தலை ஏற்படுத்தி இருக்கிறது[16].
ஆரம்பத்தில் இந்தப் பச்சையை மேக்கப் மூலம் மறைத்து வந்தவர், இப்போது அதை நிரந்தரமாகவே அழித்துவிட முடிவு செய்து விட்டாராம். இதற்காக அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்து கொள்ள தயங்கும் நயன்தாரா லேசர் சிகிச்சை மூலம் மாஜி காதலன் பெயரை அழிக்க இருக்கிறாராம். இந்தி நடிகை தீபிகா படுகோனே தான் ரன்பீர் கபூரை காதலித்த போது பச்சை குத்திய அவரது பெயரை பின்னர் பிளாஸ்டிக் சர்ஜரி செய்து நீக்கியதைப் போன்று இப்போது தானும் பிரபுதேவாவின் பெயரை நீக்க முடிவெடுத்துள்ளாராம். அனேகமாக சூர்யா படம் தொடங்கும் போது, நயன்தாரா கையிலிருந்து அந்த பிரபு என்கிற பச்சை காணாமல் போயிருக்குமாம். ஆங்கில ஊடகங்களும் இதற்கு முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுப்பது ஆச்சரியமாக உள்ளது[17]

உதட்டில் அழுத்தமாக முத்தம் கொடுத்ததால், உதட்டைக் கடித்ததால் சிம்பு சேர்ந்து விட்டாரா, பச்சைக் குத்தியதால் பிரபுதேவா சேர்ந்து விட்டாரா என்று பார்த்தால் எதுவுமே ஒட்டவில்லை என்று தெரிகிறது. கோடிகளை சம்பாதிக்கும் பிரபுதேவா, ஒருவேளை திருமணம் தனது வியாபாரத்தை பாதிக்கும் என்று நினைத்திருக்கலாம். அல்லது மும்பை அனுபவங்களில் அத்தகைய சரசங்கள் சாதாரணமாகி விட்டிருக்கலாம்.

Nayanthara (born Diana Mariam Kurian, 18 November 1984) is an Indian film actress who predominantly appears in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu films.[8] She is also the recipient of numerous awards.
Nayanthara made her acting debut in the 2003 Malayalam film Manassinakkare with Jayaram and Vismayathumbathu with Super Star Mohanlal (2004) . She also acted in a supporting role in super hit malayalam filim Natturajavu before foraying into Tamil and Telugu cinema. She made her debut in Tamil cinema with Ayya (2005) and Telugu with Lakshmi (2006). Both were successful. After which she was the female lead in numerous commercially successful Tamil and Telugu films like Chandramukhi (2005), Dubai Seenu (2007), Tulasi (2007), Billa (2007), Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008), Aadhavan (2009), Adhurs (2010), Simha (2010), Boss Engira Bhaskaran (2010), Sri Rama Rajyam (2011), Raja Rani (2013), Arrambam (2013), Thani Oruvan (2015), Maya (2015), Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015), Babu Bangaram (2016) and Iru Mugan (2016), making her the highest paid actress in South Indian cinema.[9][10]
In 2010, she also made her Kannada film debut through the Kannada-Telugu bilingual film Super,[11] her only appearance in a Kannada film to-date. Her portrayal of Sita in Sri Rama Rajyam (2011) earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress and the Nandi Award for Best Actress. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actress for her performance in Raja Rani (2013). Kochi Times listed her in the "List of 15 Most Desirable Women in 2014".[12]
Early life
Nayanthara was born in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India,[4] to Malayali Orthodox Christian[13] parents Kurian Kodiyattu and Omana Kurian who hail from an ancestral family Kodiyatt in Tiruvalla, Kerala.[14][15] Her brother, Leno, who is nine years elder to her, lives in Dubai.[16] As her father was an Indian Air Force official, she studied in various parts of India, mainly in North India.[16] She did her schooling in Jamnagar, Gujarat and Delhi. In Tiruvalla, she studied at Balikamadom Girls Higher Secondary School and then attended Marthoma College for her bachelor's degree in English Literature.[17]
Career
Debut in Malayalam cinema (2003–04)
While studying at college, Nayanthara worked part-time as a model. She was spotted by director Sathyan Anthikkad, who had seen some of her modelling assignments and approached her to play a pivotal role in his film Manassinakkare (2003).[18] Although she turned down the offer initially, as she was not interested in films, she gave in eventually and agreed to do "just that one film".[18] Manassinakkare went on to become a high financial success and she continued to receive acting offers. Her both releases in 2004, Natturajavu by Shaji Kailas and Fazil's psychological thriller Vismayathumbathu saw her co-starring alongside Mohanlal; while she played the protagonist's adopted sister in the former, she portrayed a ghost in the latter.[19] Her performance in Vismayathumbathu, in particular, was lauded, with critics claiming that she had "stolen the thunder with her author-backed role",[20] and was "the revelation of the film".[21] She also acted in Thaskara Veeran and Rappakal.
Work in Tamil and Telugu cinema (2005–07)
Nayanthara subsequently started appearing in Tamil and Telugu films. In 2005, she was cast in Hari's Ayya, debuting in the Tamil film industry. Behindwoods.com stated that she had made a "sensational debut in Tamil",[22] while a reviewer from Nowrunning.com said that her "presence with her beautiful smile is crowd winning".[23] While still shooting for Ayya, she was selected for the comedy horror film Chandramukhi,[24] after its director P. Vasu's wife had seen Manassinakkare and recommended her.[25] The film ran for over 800 days in theatres,[26] eventually turning Nayanthara into one of the most-sought after actresses in Tamil.[10] Later that year she appeared in A R Murugadoss' Ghajini, in which she played a secondary female character.[10] Nayanthara then accepted to appear in an item number as herself in the Perarasu-directed masala film Sivakasi.[27]
Nayanthara's first release in 2006 was Kalvanin Kadhali. Indiaglitz.com stated her performance was the "strength of the film".[28] She next made her debut in Telugu, starring in the film Lakshmi, following which she performed in Boss, I Love You. Three Tamil films in which she enacted the lead female characters – Vallavan, Thalaimagan and E – were released simultaneously during Deepavali 2006.[29] All three films opened to mixed reviews;[30][31] In Vallavan, she portrayed a lecturer who falls in love with a student younger than her. Sify wrote: "Nayanthara virtually walks away with the film and has never looked so beautiful. She looks gorgeous especially in songs and does justice to her well-etched out role".[32] The science fiction thriller E featured Nayanthara in the role of a bar dancer. Reviewers from Rediff stated that she made an impact,[33] Indiaglitz said she was "very adequate and impressive in a slightly complicated role",[34] and that she had "come up with a good performance".[31] In Thalaimagan, she played a news reporter, with critics agreeing that she did not have much to do in the film.[35][36]
Public recognition and widespread success (2007–2011)
Nayanthara regained her star billing in Kollywood acting in the Vishnuvardhan-directed gangster film Billa (2007). A remake of the same-titled 1980 Tamil film, it went on to become a success at the box office[vague],[37] while Nayanthara received many accolades for her performance as Sasha in her new glamour look.[38] Sify heaped praise on her, describing her as a "show stopper". The reviewer further wrote: "Nayanthara has gone full throttle to look her sexiest best [...] She has a beautiful body which she flaunts daringly [...] and is also able to bring out the cold aloofness and bitterness of her character.[39] Similarly a critic from Nowrunning.com noted that she looked "great in mini-skirts, jacket, dark glasses and tall boots".[40]
In 2008 she had five releases, four of which were in Tamil. Her first release, the family entertainer Yaaradi Nee Mohini. Behindwoods.com wrote: "Nayan dispels her bombshell act and proves that she can more than just that. She breaks into tears when needed, shows vicious contempt when rubbed the wrong way in the name of love, and looks endearing in songs". Nowrunning.com stated that she "exhibits her acting skills in full measure [and] gives a moving performance in emotional scenes",[41] while Sify's critic wrote that she looked "sensational and has done a great job in perhaps the meatiest role she has done so far".[42] She won the Vijay Award for Favourite Heroine for second consecutive year,[43] as well as a nomination for the Best Actress prize at the 56th Filmfare Awards South. Her subsequent releases were Kuselan , Sathyam, Villu and Aegan . In 2009 she released Aadhavan.
In 2010, all her releases, which featured her as the female lead, turned out to be commercial successes: she had five box office hits in the four Southern languages – Adhurs (Telugu) Bodyguard (Malayalam), and Simha (Telugu), Boss Engira Bhaskaran (Tamil) and Super (Kannada, Telugu).[44][45] She won the Asianet Award for Best Actress for her performance in Bodyguard. The latter three, in particular, were particularly good for Nayanthara, with Simha becoming one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of the year and Boss Engira Bhaskaran releasing to positive reviews, and becoming a financial success.[46][47][48] Upendra's Super, which marked her debut into the Kannada film industry opened to rave reviews, while her performance was also praised by critics.[49][50] Her performances in Simha, Boss Engira Bhaskaran and Super eventually fetched her nominations for the Filmfare Best Actress Award in the respective languages.[51][52][53] She also starred in Shyamaprasad's critically acclaimed Malayalam film Elektra. Her performance was well appreciated by critics when it was screened at the International Film Festival of India.[54] The film was also screened at the Dubai International Film Festival.[55]
Her only release in 2011 was the mythological film Sri Rama Rajyam by Bapu, in which she played the role of Sita. She received critical acclaim for her performance in the film with Rediff.com noting that "Nayanthara is the surprise package of the film. As Sita, she too has played the role of her lifetime. She gave a fine understated performance conveying a kaleidoscope of emotions",[56] while Sify commented "Nayanthara gave a fitting answer to all, unleashing grace and accomplishing the assignment with absolute perfection."[57] Subsequently, she was awarded the Nandi Award for Best Actress and the Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress.[58] The film was dubbed in the media as her swan song and considered to be her last release before her marriage as she was reported to quit acting thereafter.[59]
Recent work (2012–present)
Nayanthara began shooting for Krish's Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum in March 2012 after an 11-months sabbatical.[60] She portrayed the role of a journalist in this film and her performance was also praised, with a reviewer from Sify stating that "Nayanthara does not play the normal commercial glam-doll for a change and she is good. As a reporter, she looks good and her chemistry with Rana is perfect".[61] Her first release in 2013 was Greeku Veerudu. Her next film, Raja Rani was her first Tamil release after three years that had her in a lead role, which was followed by Vishnuvardhan's Arrambam featuring Ajith Kumar in the lead. Her performance was praised with a reviewer from Rediff stated that Nayanthara looks gorgeous and does full justice to her character., while Behindwoods stated that Nayanthara puts out a fiery face when required and also showcase her oomph & style in many scenes. This superstar continues to shine. Both films became very successful at the box office making it as a dream comeback for Nayanthara.[62] In 2014, she appeared in Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal which was directed by S R Prabhakaran. Her next release was the bilingual thriller Anamika (Telugu)/Nee Enge En Anbe (Tamil) directed by Shekhar Kammula.
In 2015, she starred in the Tamil romantic comedy Nannbenda starring Udhayanidhi Stalin.[63] Her next release was Bhaskar the Rascal starring Mammootty in Malayalam. The movie completed after 100 days.[64] Her next release was the horror comedy Masss co-starring Suriya. Her next was the action flick Thani Oruvan starring Jayam Ravi.[65] She followed it with the horror film Maya. The film was a surprise success and Nayanthara's performance as an aspiring actress and single mother won her acclaim. Her next Vignesh Shivan's Naanum Rowdydhaan starring Vijay Sethupathi was also well received by critics and performed well at the box office. She is acting in the following upcoming Tamil projects: The romance film Idhu Namma Aalu starring Silambarasan,[66] and Kashmora starring Karthi. She also has Thirunaal co starring Jiiva. In November 2015, she signed Iru Mugan opposite Vikram under the direction of Anand Shankar[67] and another Telugu film Babu Bangaram starring opposite Venkatesh for the third time, under the direction of Maruthi.[68]
She later signed as a lead role in crime thriller film Dora directed by Doss Ramasamy,[69] where she plays a role of a police officer.[70][71]
Personal life
Nayanthara started dating actor-director Prabhu Deva in 2008.[72][better source needed] In 2010, Prabhu Deva's wife Latha filed a petition at the family court, seeking directions against Deva from living in a relationship with Nayanthara and requesting a reunion with him.[73] Furthermore, she threatened to go on hunger strike if Prabhu Deva married Nayanthara, while several women's organisations conducted protests against Nayanthara for bringing disrepute to the Tamil culture, burning an effigy of her.[74] In 2012, Nayanthara confirmed that she had ended her relationship with Deva.[75][75][76][77]
Nayanthara was born and brought up as a Syrian Christian.[14] On 7 August 2011, she converted to Hinduism at the Arya Samaj Temple in Chennai. She went through Shuddhi Karma, a procedure involving a Vedic purification and a Homam where Nayanthara chanted the hymns from Veda and Gayatri Mantra under the guidance of the priest. After the purification ceremony, a Certificate of Conversion to Hinduism was issued to her and her stage name, Nayanthara, became her official name.[78] She also visited a number of holy places, including Haridwar and Rishikesh in May 2014.[79]
