காவிரியில் தமிழகத்துக்கு தண்ணீர் திறந்துவிட வேண்டுமென கர்நாடக மாநில அரசுக்கு உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் உத்தரவிட்டதை எதிர்த்து, அந்த மாநிலத்தில் வெள்ளிக்கிழமையன்று முழு அடைப்புப் போராட்டம் நடைபெற்றது.


காவிரி ஆற்றில் தமிழகத்திற்கு தண்ணீர் திறந்துவிட வேண்டுமென கர்நாடக மாநிலத்திற்கு உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் விடுத்த உத்தரவைக் கண்டித்து அம்மாநிலத்தில் வெள்ளிக்கிழமையன்று முழு அடைப்புப் போராட்டம் நடந்துவருகிறது.

 இதனால் அங்கு இயல்பு வாழ்க்கை கடுமையாக பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
மைசூரு,பெங்களூரு உள்ளிட்ட மாநிலத்தின் பல மாவட்டங்களில் போக்குவரத்து முடங்கியிருக்கிறது. பள்ளிகள், கல்லூரிகள், தனியார் நிறுவனங்கள் மூடப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன.

இந்த ஆண்டில் காவிரியில் போதுமான நீர்வரத்து இல்லாத நிலையில், காவிரி நடுவர் மன்றத்தின் உத்தரவின்படி தமிழகத்திற்குத் தண்ணீர் திறந்துவிட கர்நாடக அரசுக்கு உத்தரவிட வேண்டுமென தமிழக அரசு உச்ச நீதிமன்றத்தை அணுகியது.

இதையடுத்து, இடைக்கால நிவாரணமாக விநாடிக்கு 15 கன அடி தண்ணீரை திறந்துவிட உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் உத்தரவிட்டது.

இந்த உத்தரவுக்குப் பின், கடந்த ஆறாம் தேதியிலிருந்து கிருஷ்ணராஜ சாகர் அணையிலிருந்து 10 ஆயிரம் கன அடி நீரும் ஹேமாவதி அணையிலிருந்து 5 ஆயிரம் கன அடி நீரும் காவிரி ஆற்றில் திறந்துவிடப்பட்டது.

இதையடுத்து கர்நாடகத்தின் பெங்களூரு, மைசூரு, மண்டியா, ஹசன் ஆகிய மாவட்டங்களில் கன்னட அமைப்புகளும் விவசாய அமைப்புகளும் போராட்டத்தில் இறங்கின.

பேருந்துகளும் சரக்கு வாகனங்களும் அடித்து நொறுக்கப்பட்டன.

இதன் காரணமாக, கடந்த மூன்று நாட்களுக்கும் மேலாக, இரு மாநிலங்களுக்கிடையிலான போக்குவரத்து கடுமையாகப் பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. இந்த நிலையில், உச்ச நீதிமன்றத்தின் உத்தரவை எதிர்த்து, கர்நாடக மாநிலம் முழுவதும் முழு அடைப்புப் போராட்டம் நடத்த கன்னட அமைப்புகளின் கூட்டமைப்பின் சார்பில் அழைப்பு விடுக்கப்பட்டது.

இதற்கு, அரசு ஊழியர்கள் சங்கம், போக்குவரத்து ஊழியர்கள் சங்கம், வங்கி ஊழியர் சங்கம் உள்ளிட்ட பெரும்பாலான ஊழியர், தொழிலாளர் சங்கங்கள் ஆதரவு தெரிவித்துள்ளன. 

முழு அடைப்பின்போது மாநிலம் முழுவதும் தமிழ் சேனல்களின் ஒளிபரப்பு நிறுத்தப்படும் என்றும் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.

வெள்ளிக்கிழமை காலை ஆறு மணியிலிருந்தே மாநிலத்தின் பல பகுதிகள் வெறிச்சோடிக் காணப்பட்டன. பெங்களூரு உள்ளிட்ட பல இடங்களில் கன்னட அமைப்புகள், உச்ச நீதிமன்றத்திற்கு எதிராகவும் தமிழகத்திற்கு எதிராகவும் கோஷங்களை எழுப்பி ஊர்வலமாகச் சென்றனர்.

பல இடங்களில் தமிழக முதல்வரின் கொடும்பாவி கொளுத்தப்பட்டது.
வாடகைக் கார்கள் இயங்காத காரணத்தால் பெங்களூரு விமான நிலையத்திற்கு வந்தடைந்த பயணிகள் வெளியேறிச் செல்வதற்கு முடியாமல் விமான நிலையத்திலேயே தங்கியிருக்கின்றனர்.

அவர்கள் அமர்வதற்கு கூடுதல் இடங்களை விமான நிலைய அதிகாரிகள் ஏற்பாடு செய்து வருகின்றனர்.





இருந்தபோதும் மங்களூர் மற்றும் தென் கன்னட மாவட்டங்களில் இந்த முழு அடைப்பு பெரிய தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தவில்லை

BENGALURU:  One person died and another received injuries after police opened fire on protesters in Bengaluru's Rajgopalnagar area on Monday evening. Arson and vandalism was seen on the streets of Bengaluru and on a highway to Mysuru as anger boiled over on a Supreme Court order that meant that Karnataka would have to release more water from the river Cauvery to neighbor Tamil Nadu. Some 15,000 policemen have been posted across the IT city.

Mobs burnt 

Tamil Nadu-registered trucks and buses on the roads and vandalized shops in the city. An NDTV team saw about two dozen buses being set on fire at a bus depot around 17 km from Bengaluru. "We will give blood but not Cauvery," screamed slogan shouting protesters.

The state's Congress government and the police appeared to be severely challenged by the scale of protests and the damage to public property. Images showed young men turning over an Innova car and wrecking it using rods, and throwing stones at shops. The Supreme Court had earlier said on protests in Karnataka: "Citizens cannot become a law unto themselves."

In the evening, large gatherings were banned in Bengaluru as a precaution. Most schools and colleges and some offices were closed early and metro services were briefly stopped.
The court had this morning modified an earlier order and said Karnataka has to release less water to Tamil Nadu, but for five more days. Karnataka, which will end up giving more water, urged a review but the court refused.
Thousands of policemen, including those in riot gear, spread out across the city to check violence. The centre also rushed ten companies comprising 1,000 personnel of the special anti-riot paramilitary force RAF to Karnataka. Karnataka stopped buses from heading to Tamil Nadu and police jeeps were positioned along the border to warn vehicles against entering that state.

There were protests also in Tamil Nadu. The New Woodlands hotel in Chennai, owned by a Karnataka company, was vandalised by a fringe group that allegedly also threw a petrol bomb and left pamphlets warning of retaliation if Tamils were targeted in Karnataka. Four of 10 attackers have been arrested. Five tourist vehicles from Karnataka, including two buses, were damaged by protesters in Rameswaram in southern Tamil Nadu.


Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in a letter to his Tamil Nadu counterpart Jayalalithaa, urged her to take action against those involved in violence against Kannada speaking people in her state. He also said the attack on a young man in Bengaluru was "blown out of proportion".

The man - reported to be Tamil - was attacked and humiliated in Bengaluru on Saturday by a group allegedly over his comments on social media on the Cauvery dispute. In a video of the attack that went viral, the engineering student was slapped and kicked by the men. The police suspect he was attacked after his post on Facebook mocking Kannada actors was widely circulated.

Ms Jayalalithaa too wrote to Mr Siddaramaiah on Monday evening, seeking protection for Tamil speaking people and their property. Home Minister Rajnath Singh also called up Chief Ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and assured them all central assistance in handling the law and order situation.

Trouble resurfaced in the decades-old dispute over the Cauvery river, which flows through Karnataka into Tamil Nadu, after the Supreme Court last week asked Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs of water to its neighbour.



The updates:

11.30 p.m.: Instructions have been issued by Coaching Dte, Railway Board to run a special train from Bangalore to Trivandrum tomorrow on the request of Karnataka govt, according to a message from Sr. DCM, South Western Railway, Bengalur Division.

11.15 p.m.: Curfew has been imposed in parts of Bengaluru.

Curfew has been imposed in police station limits in Rajgopal Nagar; Kamakshipalya; Vijaynagar; Vijaynagar; Byatarayanpura; Kengeri; Magadi Road and Rajajinagar.

11.00 p.m.: One person was killed, while a few were injured, when security police fired at a mob at Laggere late on Monday.

Around 7.30 p.m., a mob of around 50 people were seen ransacking a shop at Hegganahalli Cross near Laggere.

A Hoysala patrolling vehicle and a platoon of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) rushed in to contain the situation. However, the mob turned their ire on the police vehicle and attempted to torch the Hoysala car, said officials. Eventually, the police fired 12 rounds to disperse the crowd.

In the melee, at least five people sustained injuries. While most of them suffered bullet injuries to the leg, Umesh (25) was reportedly killed. He is from Kunigal taluk and was working at a petrol bunk in the city for the past six years.

10.00 p.m.: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa writes a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah asking him to "ensure the safety and security of many lakhs of Tamil speaking people residing in Karnataka."

8.00 pm: KSRTC has cancelled night buses to kerala via Mysore. Many have booked unreserved train tickets after buses cancelled operations.














6.30 pm: At least 30 buses of a private transport operator from Tamil Nadu torched by an angry mob at its depot at Nayandahalli.

5.41 pm: More than 30 Tamil Nadu lorries have been damaged so far. They were moving on the NH4 near Sathyamangala around 4.30 pm in Tumakuru city. One lorry was set on fire and was doused by police and fire personnel who had been parked on the premises of Balaji rubber factory.

Unidentified miscreants pelted stones on the lorries, after which they fled. The lorries have been taken to a safer place.

5.30 p.m.: Amid escalating tension in Karnataka over the Cauvery water dispute, the Centre today assured all assistance to the state to maintain law and order and ensure peace. “I am in touch with the Chief Secretary of Karnataka and whatever help is required will be provided,” Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi told reporters here.

5.18 p.m.: Section 144 imposed across Bengaluru, Pandavapura and all four dam sites as violence intensifies.
