DAILY BHASKAR

It would only be fair if we remember her for her contribution to Hindi cinema, her devotion to films and the woman she was. Here's another beautiful track which will forever be remembered! :)

I don’t acknowledge Babita: Sadhana
.
Two years ago, Sadhana had lodged a police complaint with alleging that Yusuf Lakdawala, a builder, is issuing death threats to her. The issue was over a two-storey bungalow, Sangeeta, in Santacruz, where Sadhana occupies a 3000-sq feet apartment on the ground floor. Naturally our first question to the ‘60s superstar is:
What’s the update on the property dispute? The matter is sub-judiced now. All I can point out is that my landlord was G V Bhonsle and not his divorced wife Asha Bhonsle who later sold the place to a builder. I have been staying in Sangeeta bungalow since 1960. Two years later, I got married to R K Nayyar and we moved to a flat in Carter Road. After a certain point, I used to shuttle between the two homes. Lakdwala came in as caretaker in 1985 and started harassing. I used to be very stressed earlier, but now, thanks to my lawyer Ameet Mehta, I have learnt to live with it.

You are still the Indian Greta Garbo, you were not even seen when some of your colleagues passed away

I hate funerals. After Yash Chopra passed away, I visited Pamela the next day. I also dropped in to see Dimple a day after Rajesh Khanna’s demise.
Are you in touch with anybody from the film fraternity?

Waheeda Rehman, Nanda, Asha Parekh, Helen. We go out shopping and watch films together.

Are you in touch with your niece Babita? (Interrupts) No, there’s a family problem there and if and when we cross each other's path, we don't even acknowledge each other.
Have you ever been attracted to any of your co-stars?

No, they were all married.
Rajesh Khanna was not married… (Laughs)
R K Nayyar and I were going steady since our first film together, Love In Shimla. We took a step back for few years to concentrate on our careers.

Reportedly, that was because your parents were against the match...
Yes, but the gap was bridged with time.

How was your married life?

(Pauses) My marriage was a hurricane, there were good and bad moments, but we didn't part ways. If he felt that I was too dominating and I felt that he brought too many friends home. we decided to give each other space.

After how many years of marriage, did this happen?
Eight years.

The interview will be incomplete without the 'Sadhana Cut'… (Smiles) It was R K Nayyar’s brainwave, inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s fringe. And the rest is history.
