Anu Prabhakar
 (born 9 November 1980), also known by her married name Anu Prabhakar Mukherjee, is an Indian film actress, who predominantly appears in Kannada films and is from Bangalore

Early life[edit]

Anu was born in Bangalore to M. V. Prabhakar, an employee with Bharat Heavy Electricals, and dubbing artiste and actress Gayathri Prabhakar. Anu grew up in the Malleswaram suburb of Bangalore, and studied in the Nirmala Rani High School. She appeared as a child artiste in Kannada films Chapala Chennigaraya (1990) and Shanti Kranti (1991), and English film Mysteries of the Dark Jungle (1990).

While she dropped out of college when her career as a heroine took off[1] she later went on to pursue a Master's degree in sociology from Karnataka University through correspondence.[1][2]

Career[edit]

Anu made her debut as a heroine in 1999 with Hrudaya Hrudaya opposite Shiva Rajkumar and became a top rung heroine in Kannada films. She formed a popular pair with Ramesh Aravind. She has co-starred with superstar Vishnuvardhan in several films like SoorappaJamindarruHrudayavanthaSahukaara and Varsha. She has acted in 2-3 Tamil movies as well.

In her upcoming 2020 film based on the life of 12th-century Kannada poet Akka Mahadevi, she plays a dual role; one of the poet and the other of Jyothi, a girl who pursues PhD on the poet.[3]

Anu Prabhakar was honoured by Bangalore's Kolada Math, with the title 'Abhinaya Saraswathi' for her performance in various films. She has won other awards such as 'Kannada State Government best actress award 2000–01' and 'Cinema Express best actress'.

Personal life[edit]

In 2009, she gave her voice to an HIV/AIDS education animated software tutorial created by the nonprofit organisation TeachAIDS.[4]

Anu married Krishna Kumar, son of actress Jayanthi in March 2002. Citing differences, they divorced in January 2014. In April 2016, she married Raghu Mukherjee, a model-turned-actor.[5] They have a daughter named Nandana.

In the year 2009, Anu Prabhakar gave her voice for an animated software tutorial regarding HIV/AIDS education for the nonprofit organisation TeachAIDS. She first married to Krishna Kumar, who is the son of famous actress Jayanthi in March 2002 but they got divorced on January 2014. Anu Prabhakar husband name is Raghu Mukherjee, a model and an actor of Kannada film industry. They got married in April 2016 and the couple has a daughter. She made her lead role debut with the Kannada movie “Hrudaya Hrudaya,” along with Shiva Rajkumar in 1999. In the following years, she acted in the movies like Soorappa, Jamindarru, Hrudayavantha, Sahukaara, Varsha and more. Anu Prabhakar has also acted in the Tamil movies like Arputham with Raghava Lawrence, Annai Kaligambal with Ramya Krishnan and Majaa with Vikram.

Sandalwood actress Anu Prabhakar, who is busy taking care of her newborn daughter, has signed onto a new film. The actress will be playing the role of a doctor in her upcoming movie titled 'Premam Poojyam' starring Nenapirali Prem in the lead role.

After Anu Prabhakar gave birth to a child, this is the first movie she has signed. Anu Prabhakar starrer ‘Anukta’ was released four months ago. Now, she is ready to play a major role in 'Premam Poojyam'.


The actress will be seen at the climax of the movie. She is playing a very important role in the film. This is a significant turning point for the movie.

The film crew is planning to shoot in Dehradun. The movie is directed by Dr. Raghavendra. Aindrita Ray and Brinda are pairing up with Prem in the movie.
