The now-89-year-old starred alongside Marilyn Monroe in 1956’s “Bus Stop,” about a stubborn cowboy who falls head over heels for a saloon girl and then tries to take her away against her will to get married and live on his Montana ranch. While the actress captivated audiences with her great beauty and talent on-screen, Murray revealed she suffered from crippling anxiety. MARILYN MONROE AVOIDED THE CASTING COUCH, BOOK CLAIMS “She was very, very nervous,” Murray recalled to Closer Weekly in the magazine’s latest issue on newsstands. “She’d break out in a rash every time we’d shoot a scene.”

 “I thought she was magnificent in it, although she was always late on the set and she had a hard time remembering her lines,” admitted Murray. “She also had a very short concentration span: She would start a scene and stop in the middle because she forgot her lines. So she had to do all of her scenes in tiny, little pieces because she couldn’t sustain a scene all the way through. We never saw a complete scene with her.” Murray, along with his other castmates, felt “Bus Stop" would be a risk of becoming a box office failure due to the strenuous work it took for Monroe to play her part. They were stunned when they saw “Bus Stop" for the first time. “… The first time we saw it at a preview, all of a sudden we realized what the magic of films was, with the editing and cutting it all together: she was magnificent!” said Murray. “I never understood why she was not nominated [for an Academy Award] for ‘Bus Stop.’ It was won by Ingrid Bergman – a wonderful actress, there’s no question about that – but Marilyn’s performance in ‘Bus Stop’ was so much richer, it had so much more variety and it was so much more interesting than Ingrid Bergman’s character in ‘Anastasia.’" JACK LEMMON'S SON TELLS ALL Monroe passed away in 1962 at age 36 from a barbiturate overdose.

கோயிலின் புனிதத்தைப் பறித்துவிட்டதாக கூச்சலிட்டார். யூதர்கள் ஒன்றுகூடி அவரைத் தாக்கி கையும் களவுமாகப் பிடித்து அரசவைக்கு அழைத்துச் சென்றார்கள். தங்கள் வழக்கை வாதிக்க அன்றைய ரோம ஆட்சியின் நியதிப்படி 8 காசுகளைத் தந்தனர். வழக்கு விசாரணைக்கு வந்தது. ஃபிளாரஸ் வந்தார். இருதரப்பையும் கேட்டுவிட்டு கோழியின் கழுத்தறுத்த கிரேக்கரை விடுதலை செய்து உத்தரவிட்டார். போதாதென்று அவரை அடித்த 6 யூதர்களுக்கு சிறையும், மன்னரின் வளர்ச்சிக்காக ஜெருசெலத்தில் யூதர்களின் கோயிலில் இருந்து 17 காசுகளைத் தரவேண்டும் என்றும் ஆணையிட்டார். யூதர்கள் கொதித்தனர்.

கி.மு 250, பாடாலிபுத்திரத்தில் வெயில் தகித்தித்துக்கொண்டு இருந்த காலம் அது. அதிகாலை வேலை என்றுகூட பாராமல் சூரியன் அன்று கொஞ்சம் அதிகமாகவே எல்லோரையும் சோதித்தான். அசோகர் இன்னும் தன்னுடைய படுக்கையறைவிட்டு எழவில்லை. இப்போதெல்லாம் முன்புபோல் அசோகர் சீக்கிரம் எழுந்து வாள் பயிற்சிக்குப் போவதில்லை. அகண்ட மௌரிய சாம்ராஜ்யத்தை ஆண்டுகொண்டிருந்தும் நிம்மதி கிடைக்கவில்லை அவருக்கு. எதோ இழந்தார்போல் படுக்கையில் கிடந்தார். அரசக்காவலன் அசோகரின் அறை நோக்கி வந்தான், அசோகர் பார்க்க ஒரு புத்த துறவி வந்திருப்பதாகச் சொன்னார். அசோகர் சட்டென எழுந்தார். “வருகிறேன்! அதுவரை அவரை நன்கு உபசரி” என்று கூறி புறப்பட துவங்கினார்.

கலிங்கப் போர் முடிவிலிருந்து அசோகருக்கு தான் சார்ந்து இருந்த சமண மதத்தின்மீது நம்பிக்கை போய்க்கொண்டு இருந்தது. சமணம் செய்யும் பாவத்தையெல்லாம் கர்மாவாக சேமித்து தான் தலையில் சுமத்தி தன்னை விசனப்பட வைப்பதாக அசோகர் நம்பினார். போரில் தான் மகனை இழந்த தாய் ஒருத்தி, “இத்தனை கொலைகளைச் செய்துவிட்டு உன்னால் எந்த ஜென்மத்திலும் மோக்ஷம் அடைய முடியாது” என்று சபித்தது அசோகரை துன்புறுத்தியது. சட சடவென்று கிளம்பிய அசோகர் தனது அரியாசனம் வந்தார். அரியாசனதின் கீழ் நாற்காலியில் ஓர் ஒல்லியான மொட்டை பௌத்த பிக்கு உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார். அசோகர் உட்கார யோசித்தார். பிக்கு தலையசைத்து உட்காரச் சொல்ல, மெதுவாக உட்கார்ந்து அந்த பிக்குவை உற்றுப் பார்த்தார். மெலிந்த தேகம். அதைப் போர்த்திய காவியுடை. அசோகர் தயங்கினார். மெதுவாக தொடங்கினார்,

“உங்கள் பெயர் என்ன?”

“நிக்ரோதன்” என்றார் பிக்கு.

அசோகருக்கு எவ்வாறு தன் வலியை பிக்குவிற்கு தெரியப்படுத்துவது என்று தெரியவில்லை. அமைதியாகப் பார்த்தார்.

பிக்கு பேசத்தொடங்கினார். “நீ மிகவும் மன உளைச்சலுடன் இருக்கிறாய்.”

“ஆம்” என்றார் அசோகர்.

“உங்களிடம் தீர்வு இருக்கிறதா?”

“இருக்கிறது” என்றார் பிக்கு.

அசோகரின் கண்கள் பிரகாசித்தது. என்னவென்று வினவினார்.

“நீ மதம் மாற வேண்டும். பௌத்தத்திற்கு மாறவேண்டும்” என்றார் பிக்கு.

அசோகர் குழம்பினார். வழிவழியாக தான் போற்றி வந்த மதம். அதை கைவிட்டு புதியதொரு மதத்திற்குள் நுழைய அவர் மனம் தயங்கிற்று. ஆனால் அவருக்கு வேறு வழி இல்லை. அவர் மன நிம்மதி தேடி பல இடங்கள் சென்றாயிற்று. நிம்மதியாக தூங்கி பலகாலம் ஆயிற்று. மிகப்பெரிய சாம்ராஜ்யத்தில் அரசன் என்ற மகிழ்ச்சி துளியும் இல்லாத ஒரு வாழ்க்கை வாழ்ந்தாயிற்று. இனியும் இருட்டுக்குள் புரள அவர் விரும்பவில்லை. மதம் மாற ஒப்புக்கொண்டார்.

அடுத்த இரண்டு வருடங்களுக்கு அசோகருக்கு ‘தம்மபதம்’ போதிக்கப்பட்டது. பலநூறு புத்த விகாரங்கள் எழுப்பப்பட்டது. புத்தரை போற்றி 84 ஆயிரம் பாடல்கள் ‘தர்ம ராஜிகா’ என்ற பெயரில் புத்தகமானது. பௌத்தத்திற்கு மாறும் மக்களுக்கு உணவு, உடை, வீடு ஆகியவை சலுகையில் கிடைத்தது. பௌத்தத்தில் ஈடுபாடு இல்லாதவர்களும் சலுகைகளுக்காக பௌத்தத்திற்கு மாறத் தொடங்கினர். வரி எய்ப்பும் பொய் புரட்டும் சகஜமானது.

அன்று பாடலிபுத்திரத்தில் உபோசதா என்ற பௌத்த பண்டிகை கொண்டாடிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். அசோகரின் உடன்பிறந்த தமயன் விட்டசோகன் வேட்டைக்காகக் காட்டிற்குப் புறப்பட்டான். நாள் முழுதும் வேட்டையாடிய பின்னர் ராஜ்யம் திரும்ப இருந்த விட்டசோகன் ஒரு பார்ப்பன துறவியைப் பார்த்தான். ஓர் இரவு அவர் விடுதியில் தங்கிக்கொள்ள அனுமதி கேட்டான். அதற்கு அந்தப் பார்ப்பனர் தன்னிடம் விடுதி ஏதுமில்லை, தான் வனத்தின் குகைகளில் வசிப்பதாகக் கூறினார். இருளில் வேறுவழியில்லாமல் விட்டசோகன் அவருடன் குகைக்குச் சென்றான். கார் இருள் சூழ்ந்த குகை அது. மிருகங்களிடம் இருந்து தப்பிக்க கூட ஒரு தீவட்டி இல்லாத நிலை. விட்டசோகனிற்கு பயமாக இருந்தது.

“ஏன் இவ்வாறு வாழ்கிறீர்கள்?” என்று கேட்டான்.

பார்ப்பனர், “தான் முற்றும் துறந்த துறவி” என்று கூற,

அப்பொழுது, “எதை சாப்பிடுவீர்கள்” என்றான் விட்டசோகன்.

“கையில் கிடைக்கும் பழங்களும் காய்களும் மட்டுமே” என்றார் அந்தப் பார்ப்பனர்.

விட்டசோகனுக்கு ஒரு கேள்வி மனதில் நிழலாடியது. பிறகு, “உனக்கு வாழ்க்கையில் எந்தக் கவலையும் இன்பமும் யோசனையும் கிடையாதா?” என்று சடாரென கேட்டான்.

அதற்கு அந்தப் பார்ப்பனர், “மிருகங்கள் கலவிகொள்வதைப் பார்க்கும்போது சில நேரம் மோகம் மட்டும் வந்துபோகும்” என்று கூற, விட்டசோகன் மனதில் இப்போது பல கேள்விகள் வந்தது.

காட்டில் எந்தவித வசதியும் இல்லாமல், மனித சகவாசம் எதுவும் இல்லாமல் வசிக்கும் ஒருவனாலேயே புலன்களை அடக்க முடியவில்லை என்றால் மூன்று வேளை உணவு, உறக்கம் என்று சகல வசதிகளும் கொண்ட வாழ்வை வாழும் புத்த பிக்குகள் எவ்வளவு ஒழுக்கமாக இருப்பார்கள் என்று கேள்வி அவனுள் ஆழப் பதிந்தது.

அரண்மனைக்குப் புறப்பட்டான் விட்டசோகன். தன் அண்ணனைப் பார்க்க ஆவலாய் சென்றவனுக்கு அதிர்ச்சி காத்திருந்தது. ராஜ பீடத்தில் ஒரு புத்த பிக்கு உட்கார்ந்திருக்க தன் அண்ணன் அவர் பாதங்களைக் கழுவுவதை பார்த்த விட்டசோகன் சினம் கொண்டான். ஒழுக்கங்கெட்ட அவர்களுக்கு பாத பூஜை எதற்கு என்று கத்தினான்.

சபையிலிருந்த அனைவரும் விட்டசோகனை பார்க்க அசோகர் அவனை அணுகினார். அவன் தோளில் கை வைத்தார். விட்டசோகன் அடங்கியபாடில்லை, பிக்குகளை இழிவாகப் பேச தொடங்கினான். வார்த்தையால் தாக்கினான். பிக்குகள் கோபமுற்றனர். தங்களில் யாரும் ஒழுக்கம் தவறி நடந்ததில்லை என்று சத்தியம் செய்தனர். விட்டசோகன் இன்னும் சமணத்தை விடவில்லை என்றும் அவன் ஒரு அஜீவிகன் என்றும் கூறினர். அவன் பல அஜீவிகர்களை உருவாக்கி அரசுக்கு எதிராகத் திட்டம் தீட்டிக் கொண்டிருப்பதாகக் கூறினர். அசோகர் குழம்பினார். தனது படைத்தளபதியை அழைத்தார். ராஜ்யத்தில் உள்ள சமணர்கள் அத்தனை பேரையும் இனம் கண்டு கொல்ல கட்டளையிட்டார். விட்டசோகனையும் சேர்த்து 18000 சமனர்கள் கொல்லப்பட்டனர். மதவெறி தீர்ந்தபாடில்லை.

புத்தர் இறந்து 250 ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து மூன்றாவது புத்த மாநாடு அசோகரால் தொடங்கப்பட்டது. மோகலிபுத்தா தலைமையில் மூன்று மாதங்கள் பௌத்தத்தின் நூல்கள், கவிதைகள் பாடல் வடிவுகள் பிக்குகளுக்குப் புகட்டப்பட்டது. பாடத்தில் தேராத அனைத்துத் துறவிகளும் உயிருடன் எரிக்கப்பட்டனர். சுமார் 60,000 பார்ப்பனர்கள் நாட்டைவிட்டு வெளியேற்றப்பட்டனர். சமணமுனிவர் நிகரந்தன் ஞதிபுத்திரரின் தலையைக் கொண்டுவருபவருக்கு ஒரு வெள்ளி நாணயம் என்ற விலை நிர்ணயிக்கப்பட்டது.

நிகரந்தன் காலில் புத்தர் விழும் காட்சியை வரைந்த ஓவியன் குடும்பத்தோடு எரிக்கப்பட்டான். பௌத்தம் செழித்தது மனிதர்களின் குருதியைத் திகட்டதிகட்ட குடித்து பௌத்தம் செழுமையாக வளர்ந்தது
